Cycle Chain

Paul Davis

Cycle Chain aims to increase and promote cycling within Birmingham through the provision of a retail outlet currently located at Friends of the Earth, and cycle parks at strategic points in the city. Cycle parks, primarily situated at canal side routes, provide a safe parking facility, cycle hire, sales, maintenance and related services.

John Shaw, the drive behind the vision, believes that Birmingham desperately needs improved facilities and increased incentives to encourage commuters to cycle to work.

His idea will also create employment and subsequent independence for visually impaired students from Queen Alexander College. Cycle Chain will also help to reduce the ever-growing inner city environmental and transport concerns.

The project has been given additional direction following interest from the West Midlands Police to provide storage and a resale service for the growing number of unclaimed lost and stolen cycles.

As well as the obvious employment and environmental benefits, Cycle Chain also encourages a healthier life style through physical activity and positive mental health.

Co-Enterprise have helped establish Cycle Chain and provided ongoing business support including business planning, locating premises, marketing and registration as a company.
