Birmingham Pen Trade
Heritage
|

|
|
Birmingham was the centre of the world pen trade
for more than a century, employing thousands of people,
and pioneering craftsmanship, manufacturing processes
and employment opportunities for women. The Birmingham
Pen Trade Heritage Museum is working to ensure that
this important part of Birmingham's history receives
the recognition it deserves. The Pen Room houses the
cities museum of pens and pen manufacture.
Visitors can explore the differing manufacturing processes,
try their hand at traditional quill writing and make
their own pen nibs using original hand operated presses.

|
A learning centre attached to the museum provides
writing based training and history related subjects.
Local Schools, Colleges and Several groups supporting
people with learning difficulties benefit through
practical calligraphy and writing classes, talks and
presentations, educational exercises and the use of
the museums library and archives. Co-Enterprise are
helping to develop new promotional material and are
providing advice to attract local business sponsorship
and support.
